Thanks for the kind words about Krobo Bead Necklace, Cornichon. Ameho Eunice (the beautiful girl in the photo) is one of our Soul of Somanya jewelry artisans. She and I collaborated on this design the last time I was in Ghana, but the bead and color choices were all hers. She recently saved enough money from working with us to be able to go back to high school for awhile (high school is not public in Ghana--you have to pay your own tuition). We were very excited for her! And she has a standing invitation to come back and work during holidays and/or if she runs out of money and needs to start saving again.
Nice to meet you, Cornichon. Wow! Your beads are incredible! I'm going to visit your website tonight and look at more.
I got involved in starting this project when I was invited to go to Ghana and teach a group of the local bead makers how to make jewelry using Western beading techniques. It grew from that into a vocation. Take a look at our website at: www.soulofsomanya.net. It has lots of pictures of the people involved and stories about my adventures while I was in Ghana--I was actually made a queen mother while I was there! It's been quite a ride. I love doing it.
Hi, I saw your beads on JustBeads. They are really nice. I also found this space from your note to visit. Just wanted to say thank you. I've really enjoyed looking at your gallery. Hope you will visit my page when I get it blinged up. Thanks again.
